Finding a Good Vertical Air Conditioner
A vertical air conditioner is a cheap, convenient, and easy-to-install way to escape the heat. But which one is best, and where is the best place to buy them?
(By the way, if you don’t know what it is, you can find a description of a vertical air conditioner here.)
Like almost everything these days, you can buy vertical air conditioners online. Buying online is fast and convenient, and it allows you to have the vertical air conditioner shipped straight to your door. Considering that these air conditioning units weigh in at around 90 pounds, that’s a lot better than lugging it back from the store yourself! You can even get free shipping a lot of the time.
So which vertical air conditioner should you buy? Check out the descriptions below.
Frigidaire Window-Mounted Slider/Casement Air Conditioner, 8000 BTUs, FAK085R7V
$450
3.5 out of 5 stars in Amazon customer reviews
This is a 8000 BTU vertical air conditioner window unit that sells on Amazon for about $450 (not including shipping, which will be about $52). Given its 8000 BTU capacity, the unit is rated for 350 square feet. As of the date of this article, the unit had an average customer rating of 3 1/2 stars (out of 5) in the Amazon.com customer reviews. Reviewers were enthusiastic about its efficiency, but a couple of reviewers complained about reliability. All in all, this seems to be one of the more popular models.
Frigidaire Window-Mounted Slider/Casement Air Conditioner, 12,000 BTUs, FAK124R1V
$469.99
4 out of 5 stars in Amazon customer reviews
At 12000 BTU, this vertical window air conditioner is considerably beefier than its little brother above. It’s rated for 640 square feet, so it can do the job for medium to large rooms. And, you get all of this for less than $20 more than the smaller size — this unit lists for just $469.99 with Amazon! Like the 8000 BTU version, it has fairly positive reviews — as of the date of this post, it had four out of five starts from reviewers on Amazon. The reviewers said that it did a good job cooling and that the installation was relatively easy. Some reviewers complained about the shipping process, though, including the expense of returning a damaged unit.
Haier HWV10XC5 Slider Casement Air Conditioner (10,000 BTU)
$249
5 out of 5 stars in Amazon customer reviews BUT only one reviewer
These 10,000 BTU vertical window air conditioner units from Chinese manufacturer Haier are a lot cheaper than the competition from Frigidaire. And, the one person who had reviewed them as of the date of this article was extremely enthusiastic. But, there is always a risk when a product has only one review that there isn’t enough information to form a reliable opinion. But, given the potential cost savings, it might just be worth giving this one a try! Amazon doesn’t list a square footage rating for this product, but logically it should be halfway between the 8000 BTU air conditioner and 12000 BTU air conditioner from Frigidaire listed above.
